Anthony Mutua is 24 years of age and he has stunned the word by creating a very sleek crystal chip that can be fitted into the shoe soles and can generate electricity by putting the pressure of human weight on it.
The mobile phones can be connected to this device through the medium of a thin extension cord. It is costing about 46$ at the moment. The walk is not only confined as an exercise but with this device it has become as the source of generating electricity and charging phones as well. In his explanations he has addressed that the chip can be fitted in any kind of shoes except the bedroom slippers. He also mentioned that the device is capable of working efficiently for three years on careful use.
At the first he introduced the prototype at the Science and Innovation Week, which was held in Nairobi. Since then, he is aiming to contract with some top shoe industries for the mass production of his idea. He also claimed that, once the device is well spread all around the globe, it will gain the popularity very fast and the people will love to rely on this device so that it can even charge several handsets in only one walk.
The engineering students of the University of Wisconsin also revealed a similar in-shoe technology at the Science and Innovation Week. Their prototype was concerned on the thermodynamic power that is generated through footsteps. They also declared that they have already founded a company for them by the name of InStep NanoPower and they will make sure the availability of this technology in 2013.
The generating electricity procedures of this kind are helpful in the under developing countries, in which people don’t have enough sources to stand along with the emerging technologies of the world. The electricity lines and the availability of electricity hours of these countries are also not reliable for people to keep their phones charged. Mutua’s device is a perfect source for that poor community of under developing countries.
